How we operate

We are a community-focused, community-based and community-led group. Accordingly, we do not act as a representative of, or marketing agent for any corporation, government agency, foundation, political action group, or any other organization.

We solicit, analyze, and respond to the expressed needs of our local community. To prevent ourselves from being in any way swayed from that focus, we do not endorse, recommend, or positively review any particular product or service.

We appreciate contributions from those who support our work. We do not, however, accept financial contributions, labor contributions, asset contributions, or any other type of contributions if those contributions come with any instructions, restrictions, and/or conditions. All such contributions will be returned to the sender with a copy of our operating policies. An exception will be made for those contributions that assist with projects or initiatives that MCTT had determined that it was undertaking anyway, regardless of the contributions in question.

We seek the involvement of all members of our community, because this important work does after all affect all members of our community. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, sexual-preference, or economic status. We run our meetings in an egalitarian, collectivist, open and participative manner. We welcome input from all people, and value this input based on its merit and relevance, not the standing or rank of its provider.

Reflecting our commitment to inclusiveness, Mendocino Coast Transition Towns supports the United Nations Declaration entitled "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights" (General Assembly resolution 217 A (III) as of 10 December 1948). To give you a sample for this important document, we reproduce Article 1 here: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."
